A snapshot of day one at the conference

The launch of our Exclusion and Embrace Conference – Disability, Justice and Spirituality began on Sunday 21st August.

We were eased into the conference with a reflective and mindfulness session – a fantastic way to start such a moving conference.

Larry Marshall lead the Multi Faith Panel discussion which saw a number of panellists discuss various questions to do with their faith and hospitality. The discussion was provocative and reflective. Those in the audience were asked to participate through questions and discussion.

Pandit Abhay Awasthi Executive Director, Hindu Foundation spoke of spirituality being universal amongst humanity.  “Spirituality is universal and does not belong to any religion – we are a multi cultural basket and we should treat everybody as a part spirit of the supreme spirit” he said.

Rabbi Ralph Genende, Chair Jewish Christian Muslim Association spoke about people trying to identify with the “joy and capacity  – what am I capable of doing”?

Sunday’s session closed with a moving tribute to the late Rev Canon Dr Christopher Newell AM (1964-2008).

Some amazing pieces of artwork were also showcased and launched.  These artworks were depicting the experience of spirituality and disability.
