Reading the Torah (or other sacred texts) with a Disability Lens
There are 54 weekly readings, known as Parshiot, in the annual cycle through which members of the Jewish faith hear the complete Torah (Books of Moses). Different lessons and messages are drawn from the text, which frame the understanding of Torah taught to any given community. This paper will touch briefly on interpretive methodology and provide a number of examples to demonstrate how a disability lens can yield powerful messages for inclusion.
